Hour and a half drive. Left @5pm to arrive @ 6:30pm for 8pm show. Usually I like to arrive 2 hours early just in case something goes wrong I’ll have time to troubleshoot. This is particularly important when far away from your own home base with none of your backup gear around. Weather was very cooperative and this night started without a hitch. The guest of honor was retiring from DNR and guests were downstairs eating dinner as I arrived. I was setup in the normal hour and followed setup with some laughs with the bartender Carey. He is one funny dude! All staff at Lakewoods Resort are very accommodating EVERY time I’m there. Kenny, Kathy, Joe to just name a few. Guests started trickling in the bar/party area around 8:20pm. Adrian (guest of honor) and Sarah (planner) arrived about 20 minutes later. Dancing was slow to start (courtesy of the complimentary keg). Real dancing began around 9:00 pm with some Kool and the gang “Celebration” and then more oldies from the 60’s and 70’s which included Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, dire Straits, Neil Young, and Kenny Loggins to name a few. This was a special group because usually there is not 100+ people attending a retirement party and requesting a DJ. We did the Electric Slide and quite a few slow dances. The night eneded with New York, New York by Frank Sinatra and lots of high fives and hugs followed. We were done at midnight and after running my mouth at the bar for 15-20 minutes, I began the dreaded (or long anticipated tear down) beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I was packed and ready to leave in an hour.
